AWARENESS CAMPAIGN AGAINST CHILD LABOUR IN TIÉBISSOU

After Lôh Djiboua and Agnebi-Tiassa, the National Oversight Committee to Combat Trafficking, Exploitation and Child Labor (CNS) in partnership with the Coffee-Cocoa Council, the Association les Amis de San-Pedro and Santé Mobile France, organized, at the invitation of Mr. N'Dri Germain, Mayor of Tiébissou, an awareness campaign against child labour for nearly 200 students on Friday, November 12. The educational workshop took place in the foyer of Tiébissou and witnessed the participation of Mr. N'Dri Germain, Mayor of Tiébissou, Dr. N'Goran Koffi, Deputy Director General of the Conseil du Café-Cacao and nearly 200 students of Tiébissou.

In line with the awareness campaign, the NGO Santé Mobile France, led by Mrs. Oumou Dembélé Camara, conducted free blood pressure and diabetes screening from November 12 to 13, 2021 at the Tiébissou hospital. About 400 people were diagnosed during these two (02) days in Tiébissou.

 

Mr. N'Dri Germain, Mayor of Tiébissou, on behalf of his constituents, expressed his thanks to Mrs. Dominique Ouattara, President of the National Oversight Committee to fight trafficking, exploitation and child labor (CNS) for sending her collaborators to talk to the students of his locality about this scourge. According to him, this campaign is important, because Tiébissou is a transit area for child trafficking  to cocoa production areas such as Gagnoa and Soubré.   To conclude, Mr. N'Dri Germain thanked the leaders of the NGOs Friends of San Pedro and Santé Mobile France for their participation in this campaign for the well-being of students and people of Tiébissou.

 

For about thirty minutes, Mr. Amani Michel Konan, Child labour national consultant in the Office of the First Lady, explain to the students explained the need to fight against child labour. For him, the fight against this phenomenon is all the more important because if nothing is done, Western countries could place an embargo on Ivorian cocoa. Faced with this danger, the President of the Republic, according to Mr. Amani, has entrusted the fight against this to Mrs. Dominique Ouattara because of her great experience in the field of child protection. 

 

Mr. Désiré Beugré, President of the Association les Amis de San Pedro, presented a film on chocolate manufacturing. For him, the objective of this initiative is to make children aware of the importance of cocoa on the economic plan and the development of Côte d'Ivoire. he recalled that Côte d'Ivoire is the first producer of cocoa in the world with two (02) million tons per year or 40% of world cocoa production. He also recalled that the country's economy is based on cocoa. Moreover, according to him, 15 million Ivorians make their living from cocoa. The workshop ended with questions and answers and practical work for students.

 

During the second day of the screening campaign for diabetes and hypertension conducted by Santé Mobile France, Mr. Beugré Désiré, President of the NGO Les Amis de San-Pedro, offered a batch of much needed medicines worth 2 million CFA francs to the hospital in Tiébissou. These donations were received by Mr. Goussiro Ernest, Prefect of the Department of Tiébissou and by Mr. N'Dri Germain, Mayor of the locality. On behalf of the population, they thanked the NGO for this humanitarian action which they consider extremely timely.
