Survey on child labor in cocoa growing areas: the first lady had a discussion with the ICI FOUNDATION

Matthias Lange, Director of Policies and Programs at the International Cocoa Initiative (ICI) presented the preliminary results of the survey to Mrs. Dominique Ouattara, President of The National Oversight Committee of Actions for Fight against Trafficking, Exploitation and Child Labor (CNS) on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 in Cocody, at the First Lady's Cabinet. The ICI Foundation's survey focuses on the theme: "Research on the impact of increased cocoa production on the labor market and the risks related to child labor in Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire". Matthias Lange, ICI's Director of Policy and Programs, unveiled the methodology and tools that led to this survey in Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana. According to him, the purpose of the survey is to examine the potential and real impact of current investments in the cocoa sector with a view to increasing productivity on the risk of child labor and the labor market in Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire. He shared with the audience the background of the study, the survey topics, the team that conducted the survey and the financing method, the research methodology, the main findings and conclusions. Given the importance of the subject, the discussions were enriching for improving the quality of Ivorian cocoa.
