The CIM and the CNS organize a workshop to review the list of hazardous work

The validation workshop on the draft decrees establishing the list of hazardous work prohibited to children and on the list of light work authorized for children ended on Tuesday, November 08, 2016 in Grand Bassam. This workshop organized by the Ministry of Employment and Social Protection, is under the patronage of Mrs. Dominique Ouattara, President of the National Oversight Committee of Actions in the Fight against Trafficking, Exploitation and Child Labor (CNS). The First Lady, Dominique Ouattara was represented at this ceremony by Mrs. N'Da Nadia, Chief of cabinet to the First Lady.
The purpose of this workshop was not only to validate two draft orders, namely the draft decree determining the list of hazardous work prohibited for children between the ages of 13 and 16, taking into account the minimum age of work, And the draft decree determining the list of light work authorized for children between the ages of 13 and 16; But also to identify indicators for measuring the extent, incidence of child labor and the progress made in combating child labor.

N'Goh Bakayoko, Chief of Staff to the Minister of Employment and Social Protection, President of the CIM spoke on this occasion. "The Minister Moussa DOSSO, Instructed me to a pay special tribute to Mrs. Dominique OUATTARA, First Lady of Côte d'Ivoire, to whom he expresses his gratitude for her leadership and actions that enable Côte d’Ivoire to develop ever more sustainable mechanisms for the eradication of all forms of child abuse and exploitation in Côte d'Ivoire and the sub-region, " said the representative of the President of the Interministerial Committee for the Fight against Trafficking, Exploitation and Child Labor (CIM). According to the representative of the Minister of Employment and Social Protection "this workshop is a prerequisite for the government to adopt the documents ". For this reason, he urged "the participants to examine carefully and in a participatory way the different projects", because «the safety and welfare of children are a priority for the Ivorian government, " he added.
Mrs. N'Da Nadia, Chief of Cabinet to the First Lady, also spoke on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the National Oversight Committee of Actions in the Fight against Trafficking, Exploitation and Child Labor (CNS). "I would like to invite you to be rigorous in doing your work in order to fill in the gaps in the previous list of hazardous work, while taking into account our realities regarding the role of work in child’s socialization "Said the representative of Mrs. Yao Sylvie Patricia.

Mrs. Sophie De Coninck, an official from the Office of the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Côte d'Ivoire, raised a corner of the context of this workshop. "This is the culmination of a process that began in April 2016 during the visit of Mrs. Dominique OUATTARA, First Lady of Côte d'Ivoire and President of the National Oversight Committee of Actions in the Fight against Trafficking, Exploitation and Child Labor (CNS) at the ILO headquarters in Geneva. Mrs. OUATTARA has travelled to meet with the ILO Director-General [Guy Rider, Editor's Note] to advocate that social work should be taking into account for children below the minimum age for access to employment, namely 16 Years, "she said.
Finally, on behalf of the Committee of Experts, Dr. N'Guettia Martin, Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Committee for the Fight against Trafficking, Exploitation and Child Labor (CIM) stressed that "Côte d'Ivoire ' is resolutely committed to combating the worst forms of child labor through the ratification of ILO Conventions Nos. 138 and 182, respectively, on the minimum age for admission to employment and the worst forms of child labor ".
It should be mentioned that the work of this workshop will take place as a plenary session, around five (05) sessions on the presentation of the conceptual framework regarding the fight against child labor; The draft Order to review the list of hazardous work prohibited to children; The draft order establishing the list of light work authorized for children; the Minimum indicators to measure the extent, impact and progress in the fight against child labor, and finally, the discussions and planning of future steps.
